Cookies are my favorite dessert to make for every holiday and occasion. There are so many different types of cookies for any special occasion. One of my favorite cookie flavors is a classic sugar cookie. To make these cookies have a fun Valentines day theme, they have Valentines themed sprinkles baked into the cookie dough. Adding sprinkles into the cookie dough is a simple but fun way to bake for the holiday. You can make these cookies for any other holidays just by changing the theme of the sprinkles.

The base for these cookies are a classic sugar cookie dough. Sugar and softened butter are beat together in a large bowl until it is fluffy. Add in eggs and vanilla extract, beating until smooth. Beat in a mixture of flour, salt and baking soda in three additions, making sure  that each is fully incorporated into the dough before adding another. Gently fold Valentines themed sprinkles, or the sprinkles of your choice into the cookie dough and refrigerate the dough for at least one hour. Refrigerating the dough before you bake it helps the cookies not spread out so much in the oven. After the cookie dough has chilled, roll the dough into small balls and place 2-inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until the bottoms are lightly golden browned.
