Cheesy fried mozzarella sticks are a favorite appetizer at most restaurants, but now you can make them at home. These crispy homemade mozzarella sticks are so easy to make. It uses string cheese coated in crispy Italian breadcrumb mixture and fried until golden browned. Now you can make homemade cheesy mozzarella sticks any time that you want, and they taste so much fresher. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce such as marinara sauce or ranch dressing.

String cheese sticks are used for these, cut them each in half width wise. In a shallow dish place flour, the flour ensures that the cheese won’t burst out of the crispy crust while frying. In another shallow dish, whisk together eggs and milk. In the last shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs with the Italian seasoning. First fully coat the cheese sticks in the flour, ensuring that it is completely coated. Then dip it into the egg mixture, letting the excess drip off. Then roll in the bread crumb mixture. These cheese sticks need to freeze for at least one hour before frying, because it helps keep the cheese from bursting when fried. Heat vegetable oil in either a fryer or in a large skillet over medium heat. Place cheese sticks into the oil and fry until golden browned on all sides.

Homemade Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients
  

  • 12 string cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions
 

  • Cut string cheese sticks in half. In a shallow dish place flour, in another shallow dish whisk together eggs and milk.
  • In another shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning. First coat cheese sticks in flour, then coat in the egg mixture. Fully coat in the breadcrumb mixture. Place onto plates and freeze at least one hour.
  • Heat vegetable oil in either a large skillet or in a deep fryer. Fry cheese sticks until golden browned on all sides.
