Grits are a staple in traditional southern cooking. They can be made sweet to be made for breakfast, or they can be more savory to use as a side dish for dinner. For these grits I chose savory made with shredded cheddar cheese. There cheesy taste make them a great substitute for mac and cheese. They are creamy and cheesy, the perfect side dish for any southern meal. Or serve them along side some toast and bacon for a savory breakfast.

These grits are made on the stove-top and are ready in less then 15 minutes. All you have to do is boil milk and chicken broth together in a large saucepan over medium heat. Make sure that you are using quick grits for this instead of stone ground or instant, because they may cook at different times. When the mixture starts boiling, pour in the uncooked grits and salt. Let it simmer for about 5-6 minutes, until the liquid has absorbed. Remove the grits from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and butter. Stir until they are both melted and the grits are creamy.
