Flaky buttery shortbread cookies are an easy tasty cookie that is prepared different from other types of cookies. The cookies are tender and crumbly with a lot of flavor. These cookies are perfect for holiday baking, they can be used for any holidays by using themed cookie cutters. Or you can just shape them into balls and flatten them before baking. These tasty cookies are perfect for spending a day baking in the kitchen. You can easily freeze these cookies before baking, so that you can have fresh baked cookies any time.

These cookies are prepared different from other cookie by using powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar. Flour, cornstarch and salt are beat into the butter sugar mixture until it is all combined. The dough should be crumbly, add in milk and beat until a smooth dough forms. You can either roll the dough out onto a floured surface and cut out cookies using cookie cutters. Or you can just roll the dough into balls and flatten slightly before baking. To freeze, prepare the cookies up until ready to bake, place the cookie dough into freezer bags and freeze until ready to bake.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. In a large bowl using either a hand or a stand mixer, beat softened butter and powdered sugar together until fluffy.
  • Add in flour, cornstarch and salt, beat until all of the flour is incorporated. Add in milk, beat until a thick dough forms.
  • Either roll dough out onto a floured surface and cut out cookies with a cookie cutter. Or roll dough into balls and place onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
