Irish soda bread is a a classic side dish to enjoy for St. Patrick’s Day. You only need four simple ingredients, that you probably already have on hand. It takes five minutes to prepare the dough, and you can enjoy a fluffy and delicious bread to go along with shepards pie or corned beef for St. Patrick’s Day. This bread tastes great served warm with butter.

The only four ingredients that you need to make this simple bread, is flour, salt, baking soda, and milk. All of the ingredients are combined together in a large bowl, forming a thick dough. Shape into a round ball and place onto a large greased baking sheet. Cut an x shape into the top of the bread and bake until the top is lightly golden browned.

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400 F. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Add in milk, and whisk until a thick dough forms.
  • Place dough onto a baking sheet, slash a criss cross patern at the top of the bread. Bake for 45-50 minutes.
