Shepherd’s pie is a classic dish to eat on St. Patrick’s Day. Shepherd’s pie is traditionally made with ground lamb, but is commonly made with ground beef as an alternative. This shepherd’s pie is delicious with a warm beef and vegetable mixture topped with creamy and buttery mashed potatoes. Serve with a side of homemade Irish soda bread for a delicious St. Patrick’s Day meal.

To make the meat and vegetable mixture, ground beef is cooked with onion and garlic until browned. Ketchup, a bag of frozen vegetables, beef broth, and flour are all added to the meat and cooked until the creamy sauce has thickened. Spread it out into a baking dish. While the meat cooks, you can start the mashed potatoes, boil potatoes until fork tender, and mash with butter and seasonings. To save on time, you can also use a bag of precooked mashed potatoes, prepared according to the package directions. Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat and bake until the top of the mashed potatoes are lightly browned.
