Preheat oven to 350 F. Peel and slice sweet potatoes into slices. Place sweet potatoes into a large greased baking dish.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg. Let boil for 2 minutes. Pour sugar mixture evenly over sweet potatoes, stirring to coat.
Cover baking dish with foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 20-30 minutes, uncovered.
