Chewy chocolate brownies that combine the taste of a chewy chocolate brownie with the classic flavors of red velvet. These two desserts are combined to create a delicious treat that is perfect for baking this Valentine’s day. No mixer is needed to make this easy dessert, just one large bowl and a whisk. They are sweet and delicious with all of the flavors of red velvet and the chewy texture of a classic brownie.

To make the brownie batter red velvet, less cocoa powder is used and buttermilk is also added to the batter. Buttermilk helps give the brownies the classic red velvet flavor. All of the dry ingredients are whisked together in a large bowl, then the eggs, butter, buttermilk, vanilla, and food coloring are added and whisked together until smooth. Pour the batter into a baking dish and bake until the center comes out clean with a toothpick. Let cool completely before serving.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons red food coloring

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add in eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Whisk until smooth. Pour brownie batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes. Let cool completely.
