Donuts are my favorite weekend breakfast treat. Sweet fried dough with glaze, cinnamon and sugar or powdered sugar on top. But one of my favorites type of donuts are maple bars, with a sweet maple flavored glaze. These delicious maple bars are so easy to make yourself at home. Soft and fluffy, these homemade donuts are the perfect treat to make for fun breakfast or brunch.

The donut dough is started with a yeast dough. For this yeast dough, instead of activating the yeast in water, it is activated in warm milk. Replacing water for milk makes the dough more light and fluffy. Melted butter and eggs are also used to make donut dough have a soft and fluffy texture. Once the dough is kneaded, place it into a large greased bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a towel, and either let rise at room temperature for 1-2 hours, or you can also refrigerate the dough overnight.

Deflate the dough and divide it in half. Roll out each half into a long rectangle on a floured surface. Cut the dough into bars and place onto a floured baking sheet. Cover and allow the dough to rise for another 30-60 minutes. Heat oil in a either a fryer or in a large deep saucepan to 375 F. Fry the donuts in batches, flipping once until they are lightly browned. Set donuts onto a wire rack over paper towels to drain. For the maple glaze, in a bowl, combine all of the glaze ingredients. Dip the tops of the donuts in the glaze and set back onto the wire rack to let the excess glaze drip off.
