Homemade Cherry Pie

Easy classic homemade cherry pie is the perfect dessert for any occasion. Pie is great for summer or winter. This easy cherry pie uses canned cherries, but you can replace them with fresh pitted cherries instead. You can make this delicious pie for Thanksgiving, Christmas or for the Fourth of July. Serve warm topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

The filling for this pie is made with canned cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. If you would rather you can replace the canned cherries with fresh cherries instead. Place the pie filling into a 9-inch pie crust in a pie plate. Top with butter over the filling. Place another pie crust over the filling, seal edges with a fork. Make four slits at the top of the pie. Bake until the top is lightly golden browned.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pie crusts
  • 2 ( 15 oz.) cans cherries, drained
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375 F. Place one pie crust into a round 9-inch pie plate. In a large bowl, combine drained cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour mixture into pie crust. Place butter over the filling. Place the remaining pie crust over the filling. Seal edges, make four slits at the top of the pie. Bake for 45-50 minutes.
