Sweet and fluffy homemade chocolate cupcakes topped with crushed Oreo cookies and topped with gummy worms. These dirt cupcakes make a fun baking treat to make this Halloween. It is like a classic dirt cake, but made into cupcake form. The cupcakes are made to look like dirt by rolling the tops of the cupcakes in crushed Oreo cookies and decorating with gummy worms.

You can either make your own homemade chocolate cupcakes or to save time, you can use a boxed mix and prepare and bake it according to package directions. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting and decorating. Prepare the chocolate buttercream forsting by beating all of the ingredients together until creamy. Frost cupcakes and dip the tops in a shallow dish of crushed Oreo cookies. Decorate with gummy worms.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Ingredients for Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2-3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup crushed oreo cookies
  • gummy worms

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a 12 cup muffin pan with cupcake liners. In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and baking powder together. Add in milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
  • Evenly divide batter between cupcake liners. Bake for 18-20 minutes. Let cool completely. In a large bowl, beat butter with cocoa powder, sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Place crushed Oreo cookies into a shallow dish.
  • Frost cupcakes, dip the tops in the crushed Oreos. Top with gummy worms.
