Baked Alfredo Mac and Cheese

Creamy and cheesy mac and cheese with a delicious homemade sauce that tastes like alfredo. It is mixed with pasta, and covered with more cheese, then baked, giving the top a slightly crispy and cheesy crust. This mac and cheese makes the perfect dish for any occasion, as a side dish, or meal.

The pasta is first cooked according to package directions, you can use any shape of pasta, I used elbow pasta. The sauce is made by first melting butter in a large saucepan, then cooking garlic until it is fragrant. Add in flour, and cook for a minute until it browns. Add in the remaining ingredients, except for one cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Let the sauce cook until the cheese has fully melted and the sauce has thickened. Mix with the pasta, and spread it out into a greased baking dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake until it has fully melted.

Baked Alfredo Mac and Cheese

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz. elbow pasta
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and place into a large bowl. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook garlic for a minute until it is fragrant.
  • Add in the flour, and cook for a minute to brown. Pour in the milk, 2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Continue to cook over medium heat until the cheese has fully melted and the sauce has thickened.
  • Mix the sauce with the cooked pasta. Spread the pasta out into a greased baking dish. Top with mozzarella cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
