Easy and cheesy baked spinach makes a great healthy side dish that goes great with any meal. The spinach is creamy with a parmesan cheese sauce. And topped with shredded cheddar cheese. This easy side dish is made similar to creamed spinach, but with the addition of shredded cheddar cheese on top. Make this cheesy baked spinach for a quick and easy side dish to serve with chicken, pork chops or any other meal.
The spinach will first need to be defrosted and thawed according to the package directions. To make the creamy parmesan cheese sauce, garlic is cooked in melted butter. Then flour is added to create a roux for the sauce. Milk, parmesan cheese, the prepared spinach and seasonings are all added to the mixture and cooked for a minute until thickened. Spread the spinach mixture out into a baking dish and top with shredded cheddar cheese. Bake until the cheese has fully melted.
Cheesy Baked Spinach
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- 2 ( 10 oz.) boxes frozen spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 F. Prepare spinach according to package directions. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Cook garlic until fragrant. Whisk in flour and cook for a minute to brown.
- Pour in milk, grated parmesan cheese, spinach, salt and pepper. Cook for a few minutes until combined.
- Spread mixture into a baking dish. Top with shredded cheddar cheese and bake foe 30 minutes.
