Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a large bowl, combine softened butter with 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Mix until fluffy. Add in molasses and vanilla extract, mix until smooth.
Add in flour, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Mix until all of the flour is incorporated. Roll the cookie dough into balls, and place onto a large ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Place the remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar into a shallow dish. Roll the baked cookies in the powdered sugar.
