Whenever I cook on the grill, I always like to grill an onion to go along with the meal. Grilled onions are tender with a buttery and lemon flavor. These onions make a great side dish to go along with some grilled chicken or hamburgers. There is minimal prep work involved in preparing this onion because it is grilled whole. There is no need to slice it into slices. The onion cooks on the grill wrapped in foil, resulting in a tender and flavorful onion. To serve, slice into pieces, you can serve it on top of hamburgers.
I used a red onion for this, but you can use any other type of onion that you want. The ends of the onion are removed and the onion is brushed with melted butter and lemon juice. It is then topped with minced garlic and wrapped tightly in foil. Place the onion on an indoor or outdoor grill and let it cook until the onion is tender, it should take about 50-55 minutes, depending on the size of the onion.
