Earth Day Blossom Cookies

Soft and chewy sugar cookies, made to look like the earth by coloring half of the cookie dough blue and the other half green. Then they are each topped with a chocolate heart. These easy blossom cookies make the perfect dessert to celebrate earth day. The whole family will love baking these fun cookies.

The cookie dough is made like a classic sugar cookie dough, then it is divided in half. Green food coloring is added to one half, and blue food coloring is added to the other half. Take a piece of dough from each color, and roll them together into a ball. Place the cookies onto a large ungreased baking sheet at least 2-inches apart. Bake until the cookies are fully cooked through. Remove the cookies from the oven, and place one chocolate heart on each cookie.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • green food coloring
  • blue food coloring
  • chocolate hearts

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. In a large bowl, combine butter with sugar until fluffy. Add in eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
  • Add in the flour mixture, mix until it is fully combined. Divide half of the cookie dough into another bowl. Color one half of the dough blue with blue food coloring, and the other half of the dough green with green food coloring.
  • Take a piece of each color of dough, and roll them together into a ball. Place the cookies onto a large ungreased baking sheet at least 2-inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven, and place one heart chocolate on each cookie.
