Creamy and cheesy mac and cheese bake topped off with crispy french fried onions. The cheese sauce for this mac and cheese is made with colby jack cheese. It is easy to make, and mixed with cooked pasta.This mac and cheese is perfect to make for any holiday dinner, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter. Everyone will love the creamy and cheesy pasta, and the crispy fried onions on top.

The cheese sauce for this mac and cheese is easy to make, butter is first melted in a saucepan and flour is cooked for a minute to brown. Milk, colby jack cheese, and seasonings are added and whisked until the sauce has thickened and the cheese has fully melted. Mix the sauce with the cooked pasta, and pour into a baking dish. Top with more cheese and the crispy fried onions. Bake until the cheese has fully melted and the fried onions are crispy.

Crispy Mac and Cheese Bake

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz. elbow noodles
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded colby jack cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ( 6 oz.) container french fried onions

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. Cook pasta according to package directions, drain. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add in flour, and cook for a minute to brown.
  • Add in milk, colby jack cheese, salt, and pepper. Cook over medium heat, while whisking constantly until the cheese has fully melted and the sauce has thickened.
  • Mix sauce with pasta and 1/2 of the fried onions. Spread pasta into a large greased baking dish. Top with cheddar cheese, and the remaining fried onions. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
