Crispy Baked Fried Green Tomatoes

Crispy green tomatoes breaded in a mixture of cornmeal and Italian seasoned breadcrumbs. These easy green tomatoes are baked in the oven, making them a much healthier alternative to classic fried green tomatoes. Everyone will love these easy green tomatoes for a appetizer for any meal.

The green tomatoes are breaded in a mixture of egg and milk, then coated in flour, and coated back into the egg mixture. Coat in the breadcrumb and cornmeal mixture. Place onto a large greased baking sheet, and bake until they are lightly browned.

Crispy Baked Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound green tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F. In a shallow dish, whisk egg and milk together. Place flour into another shallow dish. In another shallow dish, combine cornmeal and breadcrumbs.
  2. Fully coat each green tomato slice in the egg mixture, then coat in the flour, coat back into the egg mixture, then coat in the cornmeal and breadcrumb mixture.
  3. Place onto a large greased baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
