A delicious holiday appetizer made from a classic Thanksgiving dish. These tasty cornbread dressing balls have all of the flavors of a traditional cornbread dressing. Except it is made into bite size portions, perfect for serving as an appetizer before your Thanksgiving dinner. You can make this dressing balls ahead of time and reheat them in the oven to save time on Thanksgiving morning. These easy bites of dressing will make the perfect appetizer to serve before dinner.

To make the cornbread dressing, the cornbread will first need to be prepared. You can make a homemade cornbread for this, or to save on time you can also use a premade cornbread mix instead. Once the cornbread is baked and cool enough to handle, crumble the cornbread into a large bowl. Cook onion and celery in melted butter on a large skillet until the vegetables are softened. Mix the cooked vegetables with the crumbled cornbread, vegetable broth and poultry seasoning. Form the mixture into bite sized balls and place onto a large greased baking sheet. Bake until the balls are crispy.

Cornbread Dressing Bites

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup diced celery
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons poultry seasoning

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt and baking powder. In a measuring cup, whisk together milk and vinegar.
  • Pour milk mixture, egg and vegetable oil into the dry ingredients. Whisk until smooth. Pour cornbread mixture into a lightly greased 9-inch round baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool slightly and crumble cornbread into a large bowl.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter cook onion and celery until softened. Mix with crumbled cornbread, vegetable broth and poultry seasoning. Form mixture into small balls and place onto a large greased baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
