Candy Cane Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate chips combined with crushed candy canes make the perfect Christmas-themed cookies. They are soft and chewy, with some crunch from the candy canes. These cookies have the soft and chewy texture of a classic chocolate chip cookie, mixed with the peppermint flavor from the peppermint extract and crushed candy canes. These cookies are perfect for making this Christmas as a fun Christmas-themed twist on classic chocolate chip cookies.

The cookie dough for these cookies is made similar to a classic chocolate chip cookie dough, except instead of using vanilla extract, peppermint extract is used. And crushed candy canes are added along with the chocolate chips. Roll the cookie dough into balls, and place onto baking sheets, at least 2-inches apart and bake until the cookies are done in the center. Let the cool completely on cooling racks before serving.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. In another large bowl, combine softened butter with sugar until smooth.
  • Add in egg and peppermint extract, and mix until smooth. Add in the flour mixture, and mix until a thick dough forms. Fold in chocolate chips and crushed candy canes.
  • Roll the cookie dough into balls, and place at least 2-inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
