Decorated with m&ms and pretzel sticks to make the cupcakes look like reindeer makes these cupcakes a fun Christmas dessert. The cupcakes are moist with tons of chocolate flavor. They make a fun and delicious Christmas themed dessert that is great for making with your family. These cupcakes are best served the day that you make them, but they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
To make the moist chocolate cupcakes, whisk together flour with sugar, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla extract to the cupcake batter and whisk until the batter is completely smooth. Evenly divide the cupcake batter between 12 lined cupcake tins. Bake until the cupcakes come out clean with a toothpick and let them cool completely before frosting and decorating. The creamy chocolate buttercream frosting is made by beating all of the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Evenly spread frosting onto each cupcake and top with three M&Ms for the eyes and nose, and two small pretzel sticks for the antlers.
Reindeer Cupcakes
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ingredients for Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2-3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- M&Ms
- Pretzel sticks
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a 12 cup cupcake pan with cupcake liners. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add in eggs, milk, vegetable oil and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Evenly divide the cupcake batter between the prepared cupcake pan. Bake for 15-18 minutes. Let cool completely. For the chocolate buttercream frosting, in a large bowl using a hand mixer, beat softened butter with powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract and cocoa powder until creamy.
- Frost cupcakes and decorate with the m&ms and pretzel sticks.
