The 4th of July is this weekend, and what better way to celebrate than with an easy to make pound cake dyed red, white and blue. All covered with a sweet vanilla powered sugar glaze. The pound cake only uses four ingredients and is simple and easy to make. The cake is baked in a bundt cake pan and is layered with red, white and blue cake batter. This cake is a fun dessert to make over the holiday using ingredients that you may already have on hand.

To make the pound cake, the only ingredients that you need to make it are butter, sugar, eggs and flour. Beat the butter with a mixer along with the sugar until they are light and fluffy. Add the eggs into the mixture and mix until it is smooth. Add the flour into the batter and beat until all of the flour is incorporated and the cake batter is smooth. Divide the cake batter into three bowls. Leave one bowl without any food coloring, mix red food coloring into one until it is fully red. Then mix blue food coloring into the other and mix until it is fully blue.

Layer the cake batter into a greased and floured bundt pan with red, white and blue cake layers. Bake until the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool for a few minutes in the pan, then run a spatula around the sides to release it from the pan. Turn it upside down onto a cake plate. For the vanilla glaze, mix the powdered sugar with the milk and vanilla extract until it has a smooth consistency. After the cake has cooled completely, drizzle the glaze evenly over the cake and let set.
