Red, White and Blue Snickerdoodle Cookies

Soft and chewy snickerdoodle cookies with a fun twist for the Fourth of July. The cookie dough is made red and blue with food coloring and rolled in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, giving the cookies a delicious snickerdoodle flavor. Everyone will love these easy chewy cookies this summer.

The cookie dough is started like a classic sugar cookie dough, then it is divided between three bowls, and mixed with red food coloring in one and blue in another. Take a small amount of each cookie dough and roll together into balls. Roll each one in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Place onto a large ungreased baking sheet and bake until the cookies are fully cooked through.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • red and blue food coloring
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. In a large bowl, mix together butter and sugar until smooth. Add in egg and vanilla extract until smooth.Add in the flour mixture and mix until combined.
  2. Divide the cookie dough between three bowls. Mix red food coloring into one and blue into the other. In a shallow dish, combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  3. Take a small amount of each cookie dough and roll together into balls. Roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place onto a large ungreased baking sheet at least 2-inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
