Crispy fried onion rings coated with breadcrumbs. Fried onion rings are the perfect appetizer or it makes a great topping on your burgers. They are crispy and crunchy, just like fast food onion rings. There are many different ways that you can serve these onion rings, you can serve them with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch. Or they are delicious served on top of burgers.

The onions need to sliced into large thick rings. These onion rings are fried in a mixture of egg and milk and coated in flour with seasonings. Then the onion rings are coated in breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs give the onion rings a crunchy texture. After all of the onion rings are coated in the flour and breadcrumbs, fry them in either a large deep saucepan or a fryer. Fry until the onions are crispy and golden browned. Drain the onion rings on a wire rack over paper towels.

Homemade Onion Rings

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions
 

  • Slice onion into large rings. In a shallow dish, whisk together egg and milk. In another shallow dish, whisk together flour, salt, pepper and paprika. In another shallow dish, place breadcrumbs.
  • Heat oil in either a large saucepan over medium heat or in a fryer to 375 F. coat onion rings first in egg mixture, then coat in flour mixture, return onion rings to egg mixture, then fully coat in breadcrumbs.
  • Fry onion rings in batches in the oil until browned. Place onion rings onto a wire rack over paper towels to drain.
