Football Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

A giant cookie cake shaped and decorated into a football. It is quick and easy to make this simple chocolate chip cookie cake. A classic chocolate chip cookie dough is made and baked in a cake pan, then it is cut into a oval football shaped and decorated with a creamy and smooth chocolate frosting and decorated with a vanilla frosting to make it look like a football. This easy cookie cake is perfect for any game day or super bowl party. Everyone will love this football themed dessert.

The cookie dough for this cookie cake is made with a classic chocolate chip cookie dough, you can also use refrigerated cookie dough instead to save on time. Press the prepared cookie dough into a greased round cake pan. Bake until the center comes out clean with a toothpick. Let the cookie cake cool completely before frosting and decorating. For the frosting, all of the ingredients, except for the cocoa powder are mixed together in a large bowl until combined. Remove 1/2 cup of the frosting and place it into a piping bag. To the remaining frosting, add in the cocoa powder and mix until it is fully combined.

To make the cookie cake into a football shape, cut a strip of the cookie in the middle of the cake, and remove. Push the remaining ends of the cookie together to form a oval shape. Frost the cookie cake with the chocolate frosting, then decorate with the vanilla frosting to make it look like a football.

Football Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Ingredients for Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. In a large bowl, combine butter with both sugars until fluffy. Add in egg and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
  • Add in the flour mixture, mix until it is fully combined. Fold in the chocolate chips. Evenly press the cookie dough into a greased round 9-inch cake pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • In a large bowl, mix the butter with powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Remove about 1/2 cup frosting in a piping bag and set aside.
  • Add cocoa powder to the remaining frosting until smooth. Cut a long strip of the cookie cake in the middle and remove. Push the remaining cookie cake together to form a oval shape.
  • Evenly spread the chocolate frosting onto the cake. Decorate the cookie cake with the vanilla frosting in a football pattern.
