Chocolate Frosted Chocolate Cookies

Soft and chewy chocolate sugar cookies topped with a creamy and delicious chocolate buttercream frosting. Everyone will love the delicious chocolate flavors in these easy cookies. They are perfect to bake for just about any holiday or occasion.

The cookie dough is made like a classic chocolate sugar cookie dough, then it is rolled into balls and placed onto a large ungreased baking sheet. Bake until the cookies are fully cooked through. Let cool completely before frosting. Mix all of the frosting ingredients together until smooth. Spread the frosting onto each cookie.

Chocolate Frosted Chocolate Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ingredients for Chocolate Frosting
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda. In a large bowl, mix together butter and both sugars until fluffy. Add in egg and vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
  2. Add in the flour mixture, and mix until it is fully combined. Roll the cookie dough into balls and place onto a large ungreased baking sheet at least 2-inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cool completely.
  3. In a large bowl, mix butter with powdered sugar, cocoa powder and vanilla extract until combined. Spread the frosting onto each cookie.
