Creamy brussels sprouts covered with a creamy sauce and mozzarella cheese, and topped with crispy breadcrumbs. This easy and cheesy side dish is delicious for any occasion, or as a weekday side dish to go along with any main meal. This dish makes eating Brussels sprouts delicious. This dish even makes a great side dish to serve at Easter or any other holiday dinner.
Before baking, the Brussels sprouts will first need to be cooked in boiling water until fork tender. Drain the Brussels sprouts and place them in a greased baking dish. To make the creamy sauce, garlic is cooked in melted butter, and flour is added in to brown. Pour in milk, and season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Let the sauce cook until it has thickened. Mix with the Brussels sprouts and top with shredded mozzarella cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake until the cheese has fully melted.
Brussels Sprouts Gratin
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh brussels sprouts, cut in half
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 F. Place brussels sprouts into a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Let cook until fork tender. Drain and place into a baking dish.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add in garlic and cook for a minute, until fragrant. Add in flour and cook for a minute to brown. Pour in milk, add salt, pepper, and thyme. Whisk constantly until the sauce has thickened.
- Pour sauce over brussels sprouts and mix together. Top with mozzarella cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
