Maraschino Cherry Snickerdoodle Cookies

Soft and chewy snickerdoodle cookies filled with tons of delicious cherry flavor from chopped juicy Maraschino cherries and cherry juice. These cookies make the perfect easy cookie to bake for Valentine’s day or any other day of the year. Everyone will love the sweet juicy cherries, and the delicious snickerdoodle flavor in these cookies.

The cookie dough is started out like a classic sugar cookie dough, except that instead of vanilla extract, cherry juice from the jar of Maraschino cherries is used. Chopped Maraschino cherries are also folded into the cookie dough. Roll the cookie dough into balls, and roll each one into a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Place the cookies onto a large ungreased baking sheet. Bake until the cookies are fully cooked through.

Maraschino Cherry Snickerdoodle Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped Maraschino cherries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. In a large bowl, combine butter with sugar until fluffy. Add in egg and cherry juice, and mix until smooth.
  • Add in the flour mixture, mix until it is fully combined. Fold in the chopped cherries. In a shallow dish, combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • Roll the cookie dough into balls, and roll each one into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Place the cookies onto a large ungreased baking sheet at least 2-inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
